WhatsApp calling feature has been spoken about in the tech circles in India for a while now.
According to WhatsApp, the beta-testing for WhatsApp calling feature is undergoing in India and the feature will be rolled out when the performance is satisfactory.
According to BGR India, the call quality on 3G and EDGE networks was quite good with 3G networks giving better audio quality. It also states the the function worked well on EDGE networks, which can be a huge plus point since not many users in India are on the 3G networks.
There are a lot of messenger apps which allow free peer-to-peer calling. Some of them include Viber, Hike, Skype, Line and so on. But what gives WhatsApp an edge is the user base in India, which comes to around 70 million active monthly users. Looks like it is only a matter of time before the WhatsApp calling feature will be rolled out to users.
